Estimate your ovulation day and fertile window for the next three cycles, so you know which days give you the best chance of conceiving.

Count from the first day of one period to the first day of the next.

Advanced: luteal phase

Days from ovulation to your next period. 14 is typical; only change it if you know yours.

Private: the calculation runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent or saved.

How we estimate ovulation

In most cycles, the time from ovulation to the next period (the luteal phase) is fairly steady at about 14 days, while the first half of the cycle varies more. So we count back from your next expected period:

  • Next period = first day of your last period + your cycle length.
  • Ovulation = next period - 14 days (or your own luteal phase length).
  • Fertile window = the 5 days before ovulation plus ovulation day.
  • Most fertile days = the 2 days before ovulation and ovulation day.

If your last period was a while ago, we roll forward by whole cycles and show the windows that are still ahead of you. Want to plan around your periods too? See the period calculator. Already pregnant? Find your due date.

Frequently asked questions

What is the fertile window?

It is the handful of days each cycle when sex can lead to pregnancy: the five days before ovulation and the day of ovulation itself. Sperm can survive for up to about five days, while an egg lives for around a day after it is released.

Which days are the most fertile?

The two days before ovulation and the day of ovulation are usually the most fertile, so they are highlighted in your results.

My cycles are irregular. Will this work for me?

Calendar estimates are less reliable when cycles vary. Ovulation predictor kits, tracking cervical mucus or basal body temperature, and advice from your doctor can help you pinpoint ovulation more accurately.

How long should we try before seeing a doctor?

Many doctors suggest seeking advice after a year of trying, or after six months if you are 35 or older - and sooner if you have irregular periods or any concerns. Your doctor can advise you on your own situation.
